*EDIT*If you are short on time or just don't like reading you can just skip to the last two paragraphs to get all you really need to know.*EDIT*

So, as many of you know now I finally got a job! I applied at Urban Outfitters and was called soon after for a group interview. I knew that, being a trendy clothes type place, they were definitely going to be judging me by my clothes so I had a hard time deciding what was both cool looking and interview-y. I showed up at the interview in my finest duds and saw that everyone else just went with the looking cool route and didn't try to play up the interview aspect of their clothes at all. Soooo... I think that was good? Hard to tell.
Anyways the interview was weird because about half the questions were about past work experiences but then the other half were just basically about how awesome you were. They were questions like what are your favourite bands, movies, hobbies etc.
For bands and movies I think I stood out and got some sweet indie-cred because nobody had any idea what the hell I was talking about, haha. The only thing people knew were The Pixies who I said was one of my most long term, most loved bands. Then I said I was going to see The Books which I was really pumped about and no one knew who they were. And I mentioned Hayden and no one knew him either.
For movies I said a recent good movie I saw was Primer which was a really cool, really low-budget movie about a group of engineers who accidentally discover time travel. It's got a twisty plot which you can observe in this XKCD comic (bottom right):

http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/movie_narrative_charts.png

They don't dumb down the engineer speak so it's kind of confusing but also cool. No one knew that movie. I also said I really liked Brick, which no one knew. And Willow, which no one knew.
Everyone else said movies like Twilight, Pirates of the Carribean, Transformers 2 etc. which is totally okay if thats true but it really annoys me when people say their favourite movie is just the last movie they saw or like, the best selling movie from the last year.
We were also asked what our dream job would be. A couple people said fashion design which might've been true but seemed contrived. Like if they were asked that question at a restaurant they'd say culinary arts or something. I said my dream job would be stand-up comedian and everyone seemed pretty impressed which was cool.
Okay I'm sounding like I'm just so awesome and everyone else was a big dingus. Well I am awesome. Not everyone else was a dingus though. Actually two of the other people in that interview were also hired and they both seem pretty cool. One guys' band just played with Immaculate Machine at Lucky Bar in Victoria this weekend which is pretty sweet.
At the end of that interview we were told to go home and fill out an online survey and then they'd call us.

The online survey was total BS. It was all about drugs and alcohol stuff and I don't even do drink very much or do drugs at all but the questions sucked ass.
One question was like, "Tony is an excellent worker but outside of work smokes marijuanna. One day Tony comes into work a little high. Even though this does not effect his job performance his boss finds out and fires him. Is this justified?" Since they say right in the question that Tony is an excellent worker and that it doesn't effect his job performance I don't really think it is okay. But obviously the answer they're looking for is "Yes! It's more than justified!"
Another question was "Do you think companies have the right to ask potential employees about their drug use?" Now I don't do any drugs but I also believe that they totally don't have any right. As long as the drugs don't effect the job. I could be a complete crack addict in my own time but as long as I am working suitably and it doesn't show in my work then it's no one else's business.
Anyways there was like 40 retarded questions like that.

I got a call later telling me to come to a second interview. This is like the 4th second interview I've had so in my mind I was like "BAH! Can't you just friggin' HIRE ME?!" But I went down anyways and there were other people there again. I was kind of confused because I wasn't expecting the second interview to also be a group interview. Luckily they separated me though and was pretty much offered the job except that the manager told me to go home and think about it. I was like... Uhh... if you're giving me the job I'm taking it but they were like, yes we are offering you the job but we'd like you to reconsider. Which was fucked up and confusing. I called them the next day though and said I still wanted it and the person was like, "Excellent! I'm very excited to have you!"... wtf, so weird.

Yesterday was my first day of my new job! I started at 7am and worked until 11am. It was pretty cool and seems like a good environment. The managers weren't insane sounding and everyone was friendly. All I had to do was unpack clothes that were delivered, tag clothes, hang clothes and fold clothes. It was pretty mindless but there are people to talk to so it's a step up from my last mindless job. I'm also pumped about the crazy discounts and therefore possibly new wardrobe I will soon be acquiring.

Yesterday was also my first time performing at real comedy club! I emailed Yuk-Yuks about a week ago asking to get a spot. Everyone told me that sometimes it takes months to get on but they got back to me really quickly. I had a five minute set. The co-ordinator came to me before the show though and told me that if I go over the 5 minute mark that they will never have me back again and that my comedy career will be over. It was kind of terrifying so I dropped a joke. I ended up only doing 4 minutes which went by way too fast. I did really well though and was really feeling the audience which was sweetness. All my jokes hit and one even got consistent laughs from premise to punchline which was new and reminded me of surfing, like, trying to stay ahead of the wave just enough to catch it. It was awesome. After the show another guy offered me a spot for monday at his comedy room so that is also pretty wicked. Unfortunately Yuk-Yuks has a franchise rule that disallows cameras so I couldn't tape it. Oh well.

On friday last week I headed on over to Ye Ol' Victoria for the weekend. It was Laura's staff Christmas party and she invited me to come along. I brought a book to entertain me on the four hour trip but finished it on the ferry so I was very bored for the bus ride into Vic. Once I got into town I went to GoE to check if Becky or Emma was working but neither of them were. Then I checked the Rialto for Lucas since it's like 20 seconds away. I didn't see him either so I decided to just head to my parents' place.
At my parents place I just hung out for a bit and talked with my mom and dad and played with my nephews for a bit before they all left to go downtown. Laura came over a bit later and we got ready to go out.
The staff party was cool because there was free food and drinks. Free food is always awesome and free drinks are pretty damn sweet too. I totally didn't take enough advantage of that shit. It sucked because I was pretty full after two chicken skewers and some quiche. I wanted to eat more free food though! I was disappointed in myself. Then I wasn't in a mood for getting trashed either so I didn't monopolize on those free drinks either. I just showed Laura the pictures of last years party where she was pretty tipsy about a week ago so she decided not to get drunk either. Haha, to make up for it or something I guess. Ha.
After the party everyone went downtown and we went to Element. We got in right away which was cool. I don't mind clubs as much when I'm not forced to stand in line for an hour. Laura's boss' boobs were everywhere because she was wearing an insanely low-cut shirt which was pretty funny. She just had a baby and she has a gold tooth. It's craziness.
We cabbed back to my parents' place and slept there then chilled out for most of the next day.

Later on saturday I got picked up by Brian and Lucas and went down to Peacocks. We played a few games and Adrian eventually got there too. We went to Smith's Pub for some drinks then decided to go somewhere else where we could drink more after. We decided on Lucas' place since it was pretty much the only option but by the time we got there all the Liquor stores were closed! She we just drank a bit. Lucas gave me a vodka and cream soda but I think my body assumes pop rocks are coming a la The Conversationalist and makes me feel sick, ha. Adrian and I walked home after and chatted.

On Sunday I played with my nephews more then drove to Laura's place to help her paint her room. We just moved some stuff out and painted a bit of the floor, not too much with it. Later we went and got some dinner at the Little Thai Place and ate it at Taylor Beach, aw, romantic.

There is more to say but I have to go for now!

You know how on telephone poles they have "lost cat" posters? Well I saw a "found cat" poster the other day. Really? Found cat? How do you know that cat is missing in the first place? ... If you're out walking and you see a cat that you think is lost and you take it, it's not a lost cat. It's a stolen cat.

I've been talking a lot about not getting a job and doing stand-up lately so I figure you guys are probably getting pretty bored of that stuff. So instead here is a story about something that happened to me last night.

I was at a pub sitting at a table with my friend. The pub was pretty busy. My friend saw another friend of his so went over to talk to him. About a minute later some black guy comes over to my table.

Black Guy: Hey man. Mind if I take this chair?

Me: Someone's sitting there actually.

Black Guy: It doesn't look like someone's sitting here.

Me: Yeah my buddy just went to talk to his friend for a minute.

Black Guy: Really? Where's you're buddy now?

Me: Uhhh... right over there. The guy in the black t-shirt. He'll be back in like a minute.

Black Guy: Yeah, well it looks like he's standing over there... so I'll just take the chair.

Me: Uh, what? No dude, someone's sitting there.

Black Guy: Right, I guess that's how it is!

*He gives a sarcastic smile and turns away. I keep sitting there. About 5 minutes goes by and my friend in the black t-shirt is still talking to his friend. I see some other people I know and they come over and ask if I want to go to a cafe or something and I say sure. But now I feel like a dick because my friend never came back so it seems like I was just being rude and not letting the other guy sit there for no reason. I go over to the black guy who is standing against a wall.*

Me: Hey man. I'm actually heading out now so you can take one of those chairs if you want to sit.

Black Guy: Where's your "buddy" with the "black t-shirt"? (He actually made quotes with his hands)

Me: What the hell? Do you think I made that up? He's right over there.

Black Guy: Whatever. I guess that's just human nature.

When he said that he made some total douche-bag face at me and I made a "pfft whatever" face back at him and walked away.
So I'm pretty sure he was assuming I was racist, which I think is racist on his part, because what the fuck?! "Someone is sitting here," is totally a valid excuse for not letting someone take a chair. What a prick. Most people would have left it at that but he totally pre-judged me as being racist. Either that or he was just an insane douche-bag and them maybe I AM being racist for thinking that he was assuming I was racist? Anyways, it was stupid.

Last week I performed three times which is the most I've done in one week so far. It was pretty fun.

On tuesday I performed at the Kino Cafe on Cambie. I did alright. The MC there only lets people do 3 minutes unless he's seen them before and he knows they are good. Then he'll give them 5 to 7 minutes. I actually did stand-up there before but he went to the bathroom during my 3 minutes. It was probably a good thing though because last time I didn't do too well. This time I did do well though but he was outside talking to some other comedian at the time... so I guess next time I'll only have 3 minutes again.

On wednesday I performed at the Press-Box on Hastings. That was not the greatest. I did all new stuff and didn't really get the audience's attention. Another comedian got a video of me and the only reason it's funny is because after every joke the only laugh you can hear is the guy holding the camera.

On thursday I went to Zawa's on Commercial Drive. I went there the week before to ask the MC if I could have a spot for the coming week and he said okay and I stayed to watch the rest of the show. Then randomly without telling me, during the show he says, "This next guy is brand new. I just met him tonight. He doesn't know that he's coming up. I don't know if he's even funny. Give a round of applause for Andrew MacLachlan!" I had no material prepared. It was pretty damn terrifying. So I went up and did whatever I could think of. The first two jokes totally bombed because I said them wrong but somehow by the end of 5 minutes people were laughing again.
So this week I went there again and I had stuff planned and I did really well. I did new material and it worked perfectly. One girl was like, dying and I had to ask her if she was alright, which got more laughs. Afterward some other comedian told me he wished he'd thought of some of my jokes which was a nice compliment. The MC got onstage after me and said, "Good job man! You've only been doing this a few weeks?!" and then quickly added for a joke, "Jeez, in seven years you might actually be funny." After the show he told me how he thought I was good though.

Since I've been doing this I've gotten to know a bunch of other comedians and I've seen a bunch of guys perform their stuff a lot. This one guy who I think actually gets paid to do shows sometimes, pro-am or semi-pro or something like that, has started walking oddly just in the past few weeks. It is like his leg is super stiff or something. The jokes this guy tells are usually very abrasive, shocking sort or holocaust/abortion/rape jokes.
So I was wondering what happened and why all of a sudden he started walking oddly and it turns out it's because he got a cast. He got a cast because at one of his shows a few weeks ago he said something that offended someone, they got in an argument after the show and the guy who was offended HIRED GOONS TO BREAK HIS LEGS!!
Ya so... that's fucking horrific.

Dam it I'm mad.
Sooooooooooo... that place told me they were going to call me today to tell me whether or not I got the job. Last time they called it was at 9:30 and the guy told me that he prefers to call people late at night because they are more likely to answer the phone. So today I waited all fucking day and didn't get anything. What a jizz-show.

I'm also mad because of this reason: you remember me telling you about this guy I met who told me he could get me any job I wanted? Well I've called him twice and both times he had to go to the airport or something. Then tonight I went to his studio to say hey to him because I was in the area. I buzzed his studio room. The conversation was like this...
*BZZZZ - Ring Ring Ring*
Yann - Hello?
Me - Hey man it's Andrew. I was in the area so I thought I'd say hey. What's up?
Yann - Oooooooooooh, heeeeey maaaaan. I uh, I just got home like ten minutes ago. I just missed you.
Me - *very confused, does the buzzer go to his phone? what the fuck does he mean* Oh, okay.
Yann - Well see you later man.
Me - Oh, okay.

Is there technology that sends door buzzers to cel phones now?! Or was that just a very bold lie he told me?
Anyways, the point is that I'm going to stop trying to contact him.

I am also mad because a comedy room that I was going to regularly was closed down because the place changed owners.

I'm going to bed.

This weekend was pretty cool. I went over to Victoria for Halloween. I dressed up as the Green Giant. I mostly hung out with Laura which was sweet. She was the girl from Sun-Maid Raisins. If you think that is a really obscure costume it is... except my roommates girlfriend Lisa was also somehow dressed as the Sun-Maid girl. Kind of weird.
So Laura, Nichole, Sara, Cara, Jess and I went to Element for most of the night. There were like a billion Ghostbusters and Ninja Turtles this year. I don't know why. Lots of the costumes there were really cool though. There was a costume contest with the categories of Group, Male and Female. The contest announcer couldn't count which I thought was hilarious. He kept screwing up the numbers of people. Someone on the side kept trying to tell him what number was next using their fingers yet he still screwed up. He also didn't know people's costumes. Like one girl was dressed as Marilyn Monroe and he didn't even say it. He just sucked. But the best part of the contest was that all the girls were just dressed like whores except one who was dressed as a tornado. When the announcer called her on stage she spun onto the stage! In a heartwarming underdog story she won the contest! Yay! Creative girls win instead of slutty girls.
After the club some of us went to a house party at Joshes neighbours house and met up with Lucas and April. It was pretty funny. There was one dude dressed as a skeleton who was hardcore macking on Cara and Sara and Laura. I was in a constant mode of saving them because they kept looking awkward and he was touching their butts and stuff. As soon as I snuck one girl away though he'd be touching another girl and they'd be looking for help. I think eventually someone just stopped being sly about and literally just pulled Cara to the other side of the room and gave the guy a dirty look or something. The floor was the nastiest shit smoothie ever. Sooooo much stuff was spilled on it. I thought it was fun though.

On the ferry ride back I ran into Andy, another stand-up comedian I've met while doing some shows so he gave me a ride into town which was awesome.
Him and me and another comedian, Ross, hung out last night.

My roommate Harper got DJ Hero. It is really fun and has some sweet tunes on it. It comes with a mixingboard/turntable controller. You can scratch and crossfade and add effects and stuff. It's pretty hilarious. Unfortunately you don't get to create your own DJ character so no DJ Fun Ambulance for me *tear*.

I had a second interview with Provident security yesterday. It went well and the whole interview he was talking as if he already decided I had the job but then in the last ten seconds he was like, "We have a few other candidates we need to look at so I'll call you on wednesday!" So I'll find out tomorrow. The job sounds like it could potentially be very fun but also stressful. The shifts are going to blow chunks probably. It's four days on/four days off/twelve hour shifts. So I'll basically be working straight for 4 days and then have a long weekend all the time. I would also have to work night shifts which I was happy to get away from so that will kind of suck.
The cool things though is that the company seems really cool. I need to get BST (Basic Security Training) 1 and 2 which is like $1,000 normally but the company pays for it (unless I leave in the first three months). The pay starts at $13/h which is alright although I was hoping for more considering the responsibilities of the job. It's not too bad though.
Anyways... I'll find out tomorrow what's going on with that.

This weekend is the first weekend since I've lived here that there will be a party, albeit a small one, at the house. That'll be fun.

My friend went to Greenland. I asked him how it was and he said, "Don't go. It's not green. They only call it that to get tourists." I was like, "The same thing happened to me with the Virgin Islands." - Josh Loewen

Soooooo... I didn't get that job at Bean Around the World. I realized that it might be hurting me that all my references are in Victoria... because if there are two people who are pretty equal at a job the employer is probably just going to call the references that don't have a long-distance charge and if the references are good just forget about the other person. Or maybe that's just a cop-out and I actually suck and should try harder... But I think it makes sense that it could be a variable that may factor into a decision when one person isn't obviously way better than another person, which is probably the case when the job is doing dishes and bussing tables.
BUT! I don't mope yet. I had two more interviews this week!

The first interview was at a call center. My job would be to cold call people and try to get them to agree to have a meeting with someone who will try to sell them a time-share.
Pros:
- Is a source of income... which is better than what I'm doing right now

Cons:
- It's telemarketing
- Everyone will hate me
- I'll hate me
- Depressing workspace
- Employer already seems like a dick (or he was just frustrated with that one girl he yelled at while interviewing me)
- Might actually be a Ponzi scheme

I should find out tonight if I got that job...
The second interview was at a private security company. My job would be to respond to emergency alarms and deal with clients in person, OR to dispatch mobile units and organize teams remotely.
Pros:
- The job is basically security (similar to criminal justice) and customer service both of which I have a lot of experience.
- The company seems legit and successful.
- The company seems ethical and positively contributing to society.
- Chance to move within the company.
- Cool atmosphere.
- Exciting, interesting job.
- Will look good on a resume in the future.

Cons:
- Probably really stressful.
- Crazy hours maybe.

Anyways, I obviously want the second job, the security one. It seems way less like security and more like "someone I can trust for hire" which sounds cool to me. So like... if clients go on vacation for a month the company won't just respond in an emergency but will also hire a lawn mowing service to make it look like people haven't been on vacation for a month. They might go inside the house every day the client is gone and turn off and on different lights so it looks like someone is home. They might escort people places. They'll install alarms. They'll educate clients on how to protect themselves and their property and stuff like that.
The company was started by a 19 year-old in 1997 who hired his friends and paid them with with a $500 business grant. Now it's got its own line of high-tech security cameras and alarms and stuff.

The interview went well. The only problem is that there are only two positions available and there were six people there trying to get the jobs. Also, in the interview the person only asked about my employment history and not any sort of volunteering stuff and extra-curricular stuff, which is a lot of my resume. They probably would have been really impressed if I told them I volunteer for community police and am co-designing a videogame in my spare time. But there was no place for me to slip it in without sounding weird.

So I will officially be bummed out if I get offered the telemarketing job and not the security job.
I would actually be happier if I don't get either job, because I'm pretty sure the telemarketing job is going to suck but I have to take it if it's offered to me.

I keep having really cool, vivid, powerful dreams. The last three nights I've had dreams where I wake up and just feel amazed. It's nice except that when I wake up I just lay there feeling good rather than write it down. Then the dream just sort of dissipates and dissolves and I can't really remember it anymore. It's weird because with anything else the more you just sit and think about it the more memories come to you but with dreams it's the total opposite. Unless I write it down or something as soon as I think of it, I can lay there and try to focus on it and the only thing that will happen is it will get more unfocused. Like in a dream when you try to so hard to run faster and you just keep going slower and slower... That was a weird simile to use. A dream to describe what it's like to dream. Anyways, that's sounding sort of too artsy and pretentious or something so I'll stop.
In the dream I had last night I won $1,000 in something. And I woke up and seriously had to think if it really happened. It's not some insane amount of money that's unlikely to happen. $1,000 is something you could win at a grocery store raffle or something. But when I woke up I was trying to think what I could have won it in and couldn't think of anything. In the dream I remembered someone handing me $1,000 cash but then I realized it was probably just some weird deja vu, crossover memory thing from when I worked this friday and got paid in cash afterwards.
Oh yeah, I worked a test shift at Bean Around The World on friday. Only four hours. It went pretty well. They had another person they were testing out the next day and they said they'd decide between the two of us and let us know on monday who they chose. It was kinda weird but it went well. It was very much like Sam's Deli. I just bussed tables and washed dishes and stocked fridges and stuff. All super easy obviously. I got along with everyone else who was working too so it was all good. I don't really know what they are going to compare between me and the other person. Maybe just who's personality meshes better or something?
I didn't get the job that Desire works at. When I was having the interview at that place some other girl was too. She had dreads and looked much trendier than me and Desire told me that she got the job instead. I'm not too disappointed though because that place was like an hour bus ride away and would have sucked getting there.

On wednesday I performed some stand-up at a coffee shop open-mic that was started by some new comedians. It was sponsored by a hair salon so at the start of my set I joked about it and said that I was just doing it for a free haircut or something like that. Then at the end of the night they had some raffle draw for a free haircut and I won so everyone cheered. It worked out pretty well.

Last night I went to see Louis C.K. I was sort of expecting to just hear all repeated material but I only recognized the first 5 or 10 minutes and the last 5 or 10 minutes. It was great and I laughed my butt off just like last time. I went alone because I don't know anyone here that would be interested in going but when I was there I ran into the two guys who ran the open-mic I was at and a few other comedians too. After the show we hung out for a while, so that was sweet because I feel like I'm actually making friends now which is cool because I know like, nobody who lives here. I've spoken with this one guy Andy a few times and I just realized his sister is Alison Kalstrom who went to Lansdowne. Andy was in the same grade as my sister and he went to Lansdowne and Vic High too. Craziness.

Ummm... I've watched a few more movies lately but I'll mention those some other time. Oh yeah! I went to my roommates play on friday night. It was a Biblical play done as a comedy sort of. It was pretty weird but it was worth seeing. They had some cool stage effects and one girl played both; a donkey for half the play, and; a 12 year-old girl statutory raped by a 13 year-old in a really creepy, nervous laughter from the audience inducing way for the other half of the play. She was great as both characters. Matt, my roommate had a whole bunch of roles. One had him trying to gay-gang-rape the Angels who visited Sodom.

I like this comic...

Yes, it is true... I finally got Facebook. Kind of useless because the Facebook trend is probably on its way out in a year or so.
I don't think of it as me giving up. It's more like the world has given up. Because I keep meeting people and they ask me if I have Facebook and I kept saying no and then they give me a blank look like, "Shit. Is this dude Amish or something?? Without Facebook there's like, totally no way to ever get in contact with him!" And they breathe a small disappointed and confused sigh and resign themselves to not include me in their social life, which is apparently modeled after Facebook, ever.
With that melodramatic paragraph over I would go on record saying that Facebook will probably be like iPods were too me. Seemingly WAY over-rated until I got one myself and realized how convenient and useful it actually was. So far I have gotten nothing out of it but I'm sure it'll end up being cool.

Yesterday I hung out with my friend Yuka. We talked about jobs and stuff a little bit because she finished SFU's Criminology program and we're both looking for similar jobs right now. I mentioned that I was looking into emergency dispatch for the VPD. After a drink with her I went to go get my bike and head home when I random saw Desire Olexy walking down the street. So we ended up hanging out for a little bit and she asked if I lived here and if I was working or going to school or what. I told her my deal and she was like, "Oh dude, I'm a co-manager at a coffee shop and we're hiring right now! Come in tomorrow with a resume." So that was pretty cool how that potential job just fell in my lap.
After we were done hanging out I got home and Yuka had sent me an email with a link to Burnaby city's website and there was a job posting for emergency dispatch! So I applied for that too.

This week I watched the movie Mysterious Skin. It's about gay people and aliens and I highly recommend that you don't see it. There is no plot and no twist and they give away the end of the movie in the first five minutes. The acting is pretty good though.
I also watched the movie Teknolust. Don't see this either. The only redeemable part about this movie is Jeremy Davies. It's about androids who are a crossover between computer virus and human virus. They make tea out of semen and drink it to survive and they infect people by having sex with them. It's retardedly retarded. Somehow this movie avoids being in any genre. It's not action. It's not comedy. It's not drama. It's just boring.
Earlier this month I saw Inglorious Basterds. I won't say much about it because it's a movie people are actually likely to see. I'll say that I like most Tarantino movies but I didn't like this one. Not my favourite.
I also watched Thumbsucker. It's one of those movies like Bottle Rocket or The Squid and The Whale where the plot is pretty vague and the ending is really obscure but you take something from the movie anyways. It was pretty good.

Lobsters mate for life but it's not because they're dedicated or faithful. It's because they know how ugly they are and how unlikely it is that they'll find someone else.

Hey everybody! I'm doing well.
Pretty much all last week I did not a whole lot. I was sort of expecting a call from the Waterfront Hotel which never came. While I was waiting I designed an RPG using RPG Maker VX. Ryan challenged me to a videogame design-off and I accepted. It was pretty fun because it was actually kind of difficult in certain areas and I found I was using a lot of trial and error... but the reward of having a playable videogame you made yourself was awesome so it was worth it and made it pretty cool. I sent my game to Ryan and he sent me his. Mine was much shittier than his.
I might make another one just in whatever spare time I have, which is a lot right now but hopefully not soon because yesterday, due to the hotel never calling me back, I went out and gave out a bunch of resumes and stuff again. I basically want a really "cool" job or a really "lame" job. Cool meaning, working at a venue or some bar or cafe or cool restaurant or clothing store or something. Lame meaning, 9-5, office type work. I think it would be kind of interesting, at least for a little bit, to do proofreading cases for a law firm or something, which is something I could totally do. So I might try to find a place like that and apply, although I'd need to write a cover letter and customize my resume for a place like that.
At the moment though I just sort of need/want to work anywhere so I can stop cringing whenever I take out my wallet. So I also applied at some shitty places I won't really be the least bit interested in, like Subway, just because it's close and convenient to my house.

The other cool thing about a 9-5 office job sorta thing is that my evenings and weekends would be free and THAT means I can go see bands and visit Victoria and have people visit me! Yay!
Speaking of that Laura came over this weekend. She got here on saturday and met my roommates and stuff. We played some Rockband with Harper for a while. She came over on a pretty okay day. It was nice and sunny but it was really windy. It's like... horrible grey rain right now so I'm glad she missed that. We went downtown and checked out Gastown a bit and got some dinner. After dinner it was cold out so we went and got some coffee then called up Yann and went and got drinks with him. On sunday we went for a walk down Main street and looked at the shops and stuff. Sadly she had to go right after. But I'm glad she came over.

Last night I went and did stand-up for the first time. It was fun. I did like 5 minutes. I made at least three people laugh really hard which I'll take because there weren't many people in the audience anyways and I was half-expecting no one to laugh at all.
Before the show all the comedians who want to go on show up early and talk to the host of the show, Johnny. Usually everyone pulls straws. This time Johnny got on the mic and told everyone, "Hey, we're not pulling straws this time guys. There's a lot of newbies who never get on like this guy, *points at me* Andrew, and I think we should all support eachother so I'm going to give new guys like Andrew priority some nights... like tonight." Then everyone groaned and about half the comedians left... I'm gunna make friends! I think Johnny was trying to do something nice but I kinda felt put on the spot. There was some cool people who talked to me though.
After I was done I watched some headliners. For some reason there were two random hecklers that kept being douchebags. One guy was just drunk and I never really heard what he was saying but then there was some lady who didn't seem drunk at all she just seemed like an asshole. She wanted to tell everyone that she was a model and that everyone else in the bar was too stupid to know what happened at residential schools. It was very awkward and unrelated to anything.

Today I'm supposed to call some people and I'm probably going out tonight to do something, maybe some more stand-up!

So I did actually manage to sell my bike to a quadriplegic. It's like that expression of selling an ice-box to an eskimo. It was pretty weird but I think he said he collects them because he used to ride a lot before he had his accident.
I also sold my other bike to Yann... the print-studio guy. So I only have one bike now. Back to normal. I kind of regret it a little bit and want two bikes though, ha.

So since I don't have a job or anything yet I decided to go over to Victoria on the weekend to hang out with people. I saw Laura a lot which was cool. Her family was visiting so we hung out with them a bunch. I went to Adrian and Kalyn's place on friday night but left pretty early. Saturday night was Lucas' giant party at his new place. There were a lot of people there. I'm glad I got to see everyone that I got to see.

On my way back here I saw Devlin and Anton on the bus. Anton got off right away but Devlin was going to Vancouver too because he also lives here. So we hung out and talked pretty much the whole way which was cool. From the sounds of it we're pretty much living the same life right now, ie. being very bored throughout the day, and not wanting to spend very much money on fun night-time stuff due to a lack of incoming funds. All outgoing and no incoming = bad news for this crew. I might go on another job-blitz sometime soon.
I also saw Comox Amy on the Skytrain. Well she was going south and I was going north so we were on different Skytrains but we someone saw eachother anyways. What the deal? In the first two weeks I run into two people I know? I thought Vancouver was supposed to be a big city. Oh, I also recognized the brewery tour guide walking down the street from when Laura and I came here a while ago and went to the Granville Island brewery. Not that I know her or anything but I still recognized her.

One thing I have been doing with my time is going to comedy clubs because I want to try it out. I've gone and watched a few shows. The first one I went to was at Yuk Yuk's which is an actual comedy club. It was pretty good. The other ones I've seen though were just at some random bars and it was brutal. One place only had like six people in the audience and like 20 comedians. One of the audience members was wasted and yelling. Some of the comedians were horrible. One guy just told jokes that a grandpa would tell. Like the one that's like, "I had a dream that I ate a giant marshmallow the other night... then I woke up and my pillow was gone!" except he drew it out for literally 5 minutes. So with the combination of the lack of audience and poor comedians, the comedians that were actually good didn't do well either.
I went to a gig last night and it was kind of similar. There weren't very many people in the audience and most of them were talking to eachother because it was a pub, rather than listening to the comedians. There was also no stage which probably didn't help. Lots of people bombed which would normally be funny but it was just embarrassing. Also since I want to try it out it kind of made me apprehensive about it. I'm going to check out a few more venues.

I collect stamps. The easiest way to collect stamps is to not mail shit. "How's the stamp collection going?" "Pretty good since I stopped corresponding with you."

Vancouver it treating me well so far. Except that when I was out applying for jobs a pigeon shat right down the front of my shirt withing 20 seconds of me stepping off the bus. But apparently that is good luck. Or at least that's what people tell you to make you feel better when something like that happens.

Awesome things that have happened to me thus far:
A homeless offered to pay me to smack some people for him. I graciously declined.

Another homeless man, when I was dressed for job searching, commented as I walked by, "Well! YOU look reasonable!" I said, "Uh, thanks man." I continued walking and the man started laughing, "Heh, heh heh. Ha hahaha. Ha! HA! MAHAHA. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!" It was a laugh straight out of Frankenstein.

I brought three bikes with me when I came over here. I'm planning on selling at least one, probably two of them. Anyways I put one on craigslist and today I got a call from someone who wants to buy it. The guy is a quadriplegic named Jimbo Toad.

I went to meet the print-studio guy last night. It was a pretty awesome meet. It's a t-shirt print shop, not posters. The guy, Yann, was really cool and we talked for over an hour. Closer to two hours. The studio is just one big room in a studio complex. Apparently to get into the building you go through a pretty thorough interview process and every studio in the place is all stuff like glass-blowing, pottery kilns, art studios and jam spaces. The print-studio has it's own line with art made by Yann and I guess a couple other people who will be working there. They also print for other random companies. He basically said that he doesn't like doing other companies stuff most of the time because it's usually all shit art but it pays the bills and lets him do what he likes to do. It all seemed too trendy for me but we were somehow on the same wavelength for everything we talked about. His regular job is graphic design in the videogame industry and he said he works for Ubisoft. He's sort of on sabbatical right now though and doing this print-studio thing just as a side-project. He also has some random day job that hooks him up with all sorts of sweet shit. Most of the hardware and stuff in the whole studio he got from his work for free somehow. And he had some cool stuff. Huge TV, some sweet computer monitors (as well as computers and software I would assume), a very large projection screen thing and a bunch of furniture and stuff too.
We talked about videogames for a while and we liked a lot of the same stuff. Then we talked about pen-tablets and comics and we both had a lot to say. Then he mentioned he had a full-body green suit for green-screening and stuff. He started to say, "I got it because I've been watching this -" And I was like "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia!" and we both talked about that for a while. And we talked about a bunch of other shit too.
Anyways so I asked him what sort of stuff I would do if I worked there and he didn't really know but said he'd find something. I think it'd be more like I'd be getting paid to hang out and be part of the creative process as well as doing random errands and jobs probably. Hopefully I would learn some stuff too about graphic design.
He also mentioned though that he could probably hook me up with any other field of work if I could think of something I would rather do. I didn't really know what to say when he said that because obviously I was like, "You couldn't just get me a job in whatever I want to do, like... anything... just like that." But I'm thinking he means pretty much any job a young person in the city might think is cool. Like if I wanted to work at a bar, or music store, or clothing store or something like that. So I told him that from my experience, anything I do that is new, whether it be selling chocolate, renting movies, or mopping floors, is cool just because of the fact that it is something new and different. He told me to go and think about it and get back to him.
So it's like this crazy choose your own adventure and I'm trying to think of the next year for me and what it would be like if I say I want to work at a concert venue, or I want to work at some crazy lounge-cafe, or what?!

Right now, because he mentioned he's got some friends in some random theatre group or something, I might want to get hooked up with that, because that would be fun. I don't think that would be a job though. Doesn't seem like that thing that would pay well but would be more of a fun hobby thing. So other than that... I got along pretty well with Yann and the job seems like it would be pretty interesting anyways so I might just see if he'd want me working there. It's weird having a total blank slate and a bunch of new opportunity and stuff.

Anyone here watch ESPN classic? I do. I was watching it and a guy hit a foul ball. Fucking classic, man.

Geoff and I went to go see District 9 the other day. I thought it was really good. I remember when I was a kid and Independence Day came out and thinking how it seemed very unlikely that an alien invasion would happen that way. I always have assumed that if aliens came, humans would be the first ones to attack, claiming a pre-emptive attack is completely justified before even knowing the aliens intentions. I always wanted to see a movie where the humans were the bad guys. District 9 sort of did that in a way... at least the aliens didn't start off super aggressive.
I also think the main actor should get some sort of award because he was awesome. He was pretty much the only main character in the movie with the exception of the CGI alien and he totally carried most of the weight of the movie on his shoulders. The progression of the character from the start of the movie to the end is awesome. The character is totally not a leader-type, thrown into a leaders role. He's just a normal guy who just wants to be with his wife. He's ignorant and weak and totally the opposite of most main characters in action movies. I would recommend seeing the movie.

Last night I went and saw Datarock play. They weren't as awesome as at Coachella but I was also warmed up all day at Coachella and totally pumped for it. They were still pretty awesome though. When I showed up last night, doors were at 8:00 and the show was supposed to start at 9:00, I got there at 9:00 and I was literally the first person in the place. I also went alone so I probably looked kind of weird or like a super-crazy-eager fan or something. Some random girl from Quebec came and sat with me and talked though so that was cool.
The warm-up band had to start playing with only three people on the floor. They were really good too. Eventually more people came out to the floor and started dancing. Datarock is releasing a new album this week so a lot of the stuff they played was new but they played some older stuff too that I recognized. They might have gotten a new drummer or he might have just gotten fatter, I couldn't tell.

I applied at a bunch of places the other day. The Fairmont Waterfront, The Hotel Vancouver, True Vintage Clothing, The Orpheum Theatre, The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, South Vancouver Community Police and maybe a few other places I've forgotten at the moment. Any of those places would be cool. I already got a criminal record check for the Community Police Station. If I went there I'd start off volunteering but then I'd have an in for office work or emergency dispatch or something which would be cool. I also have a pretty solid job option through a connection I have at The Empress. The son of a lady I worked with owns a "print-studio" (I'm not sure if it's posters of t-shirts or what) business near Commercial Drive and some sort of computer business near Cambie and Broadway I think. I emailed him and he's emailed me back already and would like to meet sometime.
So take that be-otches who cringed whenever I said I was moving and didn't have a job yet. Any of those jobs would be awesome and I don't even crucially need one anytime soon.

One thing that kind of sucks is that I forgot my glasses when I moved over here. So when I'm not using my contacts I have to use my back-up pair of glasses which look ridiculous. I'm pretty much trying to max out my contact lens usage every day now.

I want to walk around with those airplane sized bottle of booze and act like I'm a raging alcoholic.

I am now living in Vancouver. I'm sharing the main floor and basement of a house with three other guys. The only guy I met before actually moving here was Matt. He seems pretty cool. He seems like sort of the organizer of the house since I give my rent to him and he was the one emailing me all the time. He also seems pretty excited when the other new guy, Geoff, and I start rearranging cupboards and furniture to be able to fit our stuff. He's in Theatre.
Geoff moved in the same time as me. He's pretty gregarious. I guess he showed up a few hours before me and already called his friend to come over and BBQ'd a giant feast from all his meat that thawed out during his drive here from Alberta. Unfortunately most of the chicken wasn't cooked fully but somehow I'm the only one that ever noticed. Or I was just really unlucky and got all the pink ones. I felt kinda bad for pointing it out on like 3 different pieces but I didn't want to just not eat it and have him feel like I didn't like his cooking or like I am anorexic or something. I'm surprised the other people didn't get sick since they ate everything. Anyways, it was cool for him to do that even if it wasn't cooked right. I've probably spent the most time with Geoff so far moving the furniture in the main floor living room, rearranging our bathroom and going for a walk to get to know the neighbourhood. He's in Journalism.
Harper is the other guy who has lived here for a while and is good friends with Matt. He's pretty laid back. Matt said that Harper is sort of the computer guy around the house and used to be a bit of a hacker and stuff, ha. In casual conversation he called himself a hardcore gamer. I played a bit of Halo 3 with him and his friend Adam (an old roommate) last night. I obviously sucked since I haven't played in forever and don't know any of the maps. Harper seems pretty intelligent too. He's in Business.
So far we all seem to get along so that's cool.

My room is right at the front of the house and has a big window. My bed is right beside it and I've slept with the window wide open both nights which is extremely refreshing considering my old apartment was constantly like 30 to 40 degrees. I'm just a bit worried about the giant window because it makes my nice-looking computer in my room very visible and might make us a target for robbery but I can't do anything about that and I'm probably just being paranoid because I'm in a big new city anyways. The floor is either hardwood or faux-hardwood. It's a smaller space than what I'm used to having all my stuff in but I like small spaces anyways. It's just a little hard to organize. I keep putting things in places and then seeing something that would fit better in that place and moving everything around. There's still a lot of shit on my floor right now.

Yesterday I changed my phone number which means I can now start searching for jobs if I want. I'm kind of liking the not having a job right now thing and not looking forward to the looking for a job thing. Once I get a new job though it will probably seem pretty exciting so I have that as a reason to start looking. Oh yeah, if you didn't get my text for any reason, maybe you don't have a cel, or I just don't have your number or something, my new number for Vancouver is 1-604-928-2253 or 1-604-9-BUBBLE if that will help you remember.

I still have a few things on my To Do list before I start an intensive search though. I want to get a bar to put in my room so I have room to hang more clothes. I want to go explore Metrotown for a day since I've never been there. I want to get to know the neighbourhood a bit better. I want to hang out with Carly and Yuka who are the only people in Vancouver that I know.

Well that's all I can think of for now, I'm going out for a walk.

You know when you go to a bar and you want to wash your hands? So you go to the bathroom and they don't have any hot water. You turn on the "C" knob and cold water comes out, then you turn on the "H" knob and cold water still comes out... I can accept that but I want to know what "H" stands for now. "C" obviously stands for "cold". "H" must stand for, "Ha Ha dude! You thought I was hot but I was not. Now go spread some germs."

I'm moving to Vancouver at the end of the month. I have a place, I told my boss I'm quitting, and it's pretty exciting even though I'm sad I have to leave all my friends. I basically only have one real friend in Vancouver. So I'll probably be hanging out with Carly a lot. I also know someone from the play I was in this year that lives there and I could actually see being friends with, although we've never actually hung out. And I'll be living with three dudes who are hopefully chill. The one guy I met seems pretty cool so far. I can start moving my stuff over there any time this month.
I went to talk to the HR guy at my work a couple days ago to check out what's been going on with the other hotels in Vancouver and to see if I could transfer over there or something but he's on vacation for two weeks! But he gets back monday. At least he's at the end of his vacation and not the beginning. I really need to update my resume.

There is this band from Montreal I have been listening to a lot lately called Hollerado. There whole album is free on their website which is awesome. They remind me of this other band I really like, also from Montreal, The Lovely Feathers, who are a bunch of dudes who met on a Jewish retreat to Israel. Anyways, I used to listen to The Lovely Feathers a lot then when I downloaded Hollerado I started listening to them again because they are similar styles sort of. They're both sort of 90's sounding, garage-pop. I'm pretty much the only person I can think of who really likes that type of music. Early Weezer is sorta what I mean and I love early Weezer. And some Islands are thrown in there too.
So I've been listening to these guys for like that last couple weeks straight and I have their songs stuck in my head and stuff and the other day I'm biking to work at 11pm and I stop at a red light and look over at a telephone pole and there is a poster that says, "The Lovely Feathers, Logans!" and guess what day they're playing? That frickin' night. I missed them by only a few hours and it was damn annoying.
Speaking of bands I like I've been listening to The Books for a few years now and I still hear something new almost every time I re-listen to one of their albums. They're pretty sweet and super creative. It's another band that I always want to recommend to people but I have no idea who would enjoy their music. They're sort of lo-fi, found sound, ambient stuff. It's weird. I sort of want to tell Dave and Brianna to listen to them... but I think it's only because they both read a lot of books (in my mind at least), and one of the guys in the band looks a bit like Simon Frankson who they both love.

I've been watching It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia lately and it's really funny. I also just watched the first two episodes of Undeclared. It only lasted one season but it looks good so far and it totally should have lasted more. It also stars Jay Baruchel who is hilarious. After I watch all of Undeclared I'm going to take a look at Freaks and Geeks which only lasted one season as well and was made by the same people. Apparently it's good too.
A few of my favourite comedians have gotten more publicity lately. Demetri Martin got his own show. His stand-up is good but the show is a bit slow. Louis C.K. had his own show a while ago. His stand-up is hilarious but his show was just okay and canceled after one season. He's in a new movie with Ricky Gervais called the Invention of Lying which looks pretty bad and Louis C.K.'s part looks pretty lame too. He's an awesome comedian but not a very good actor. Luckily though, Zach Galiafinakis, another of my favourite stand-ups was in The Hangover. The movie did really well and Zach Galiafinakis was awesome in it.

Shit, I gotta go to work.

I like when they say shampoo is volumizing because my hair is fucking quiet. I want to hear what it has to say.

So I've forgotten to mention that last weekend a bunch of people went camping randomly. We went to a place called Maple Grove on Cowichan Lake.
Everyone went up on Friday except for me, Laura and Adrian. I worked until 7:00pm that night so we didn't go until the next morning. We weren't actually sure Adrian was even coming at first but he called and met up with us in Duncan on his sweet new motorcycle. Adrian, by the way, now rides a motorcycle and is about a billion times cooler than me instead of his regular a hundred times cooler. Except now I'm always worried that he's going to die, especially after some of his insane stories. Anyways, he followed behind me and Laura for the rest of the way because we kind of knew where we were going.

As soon as we showed up everyone was already drinking and trying to get me drunk too. They were telling stories of tentacled spiders and cheetos and other crazy shit like that. I ate some smores and we went to the beach!
The water at the lake was soooooooo warm, except for random cold patches, and it was sooooooo clear. You could swim twenty feet out and still look down and see the lake bed. It made Thetis look like a dingy cesspool. We went out in Lucas' boat and had some drinks and swam around and laid in the sun a lot. It was nice.

When we all came back to Victoria, Laura left for five days to go to a wedding and we got our crazy heat wave. I went to the beach three days in a row. Oh, yeah some where in there before she left Laura and I went to East Sooke Park randomly too. I sat on the sand while Laura played with the kids and secretly dissed their camp leaders who weren't watching because we totally could have stolen a few of those kids... but then again why would you want to steal some kids? Then we hiked a trail along the ocean and made out while fishermen on boats watched. After being outside in the blazing sun for like 7 out of 10 days, I was sure that I'd either be burned or super tanned and sexy but neither of those things happened.

Oh yeah, also after the beach one day I went to Azuma with Mike, Mellissa, and Nadia which was cool because I've never been to Azuma and Nadia left for Toronto a couple days later. It was only slightly not cool because I almost missed seeing Laura before she left for the wedding. I caught her for the last 20 minutes of her being here though.

I just picked Laura up from the airport last night and we hung out and made delicious quesadillas.

Now I'm going to go to the beach with my nephew.

I got a belt that's holding up my pants but it's fucking heavy so it's weighing them down. If it weren't for the belt my pants would be okay. My belt holds up my pants. My pants have belt loops that hold up the belt. What the fuck's really going on down there?

Roommate Assessment

Option #1:
West 10th, Kitsilano
$750
One, female roommate, 24
pros - awesome area, Kits! Woo!
cons - rent a bit pricey - I do not fit the roommates "preference" meaning I am under 23 years old and I am a dude.

Option #2:
49th and Fraser, Oakridge
$500
Three, male roommates, at least one age 21
pros - cheaper rent than what I'm paying now - three guys my age (maybe this should be in cons?) - the one guy, Matthew, purchased a premium membership on Easyroommate.com just so he could read my message, that shows commitment!
cons - a bit far from downtown... about 50-ish blocks - have to start paying rent in August to secure the space even though I don't move in until September. Ouch.

Drivers who are overly courteous. Don't get me wrong, I like courteous drivers but it's irritating as fuck when you're on a busy road like Shelbourne or Quadra or something and you have no qualms about waiting for a gap in traffic so you can cross the street but for some reason a driver sees you and decides to hit the brakes, making everyone stop for you. It's annoying because I know I should go to the corner or a crosswalk so I'm really not expecting anyone to wave me across the road. When it happens it's a lot of attention I don't want.

Conversely, I don't like it when people wait at street corners with no intention of crossing but look like they are going to. Move down twenty feet so cars aren't waiting for you to cross at the corner only to realize after a few seconds that you're just standing there picking your nose.

Whenever I see people wearing sunglasses when it's dark out I think to myself that they are total crotch-balls lame. Hilariously hypocritically though, I love wearing sunglasses at all occasions; night time, inside, funerals. I know I probably look super douchey but you just feel badass when you wear some cool shades. Once again though, when I see other people wearing sunglasses at night I laugh at them.

If you are a man, or a woman who doesn't use public washrooms I will let you in on a little secret. In female public washrooms they have these little metal boxes in each bathroom stall. Okay well I should put a disclaimer here saying that my experience with this is really only limited to the Empress female washrooms. Anyways, these metal boxes have wax paper liners inside so that girls can get rid of used pads or tampons. Now, what is supposed to happen is girls open the box, grab a wax paper bag, open it, and insert their used female hygiene product. What actually happens that is so damn annoying is that a lot of girls don't take the consideration to actually use a bag. Instead they open the metal box, whip out their tampon, and slam dunk it in. Then later the person who cleans the washroom, (ie. me, at the Empress) comes along and instead of being able to cleanly, quickly grab a wax bag, they have to pry a fucking tampon stuck with dried blood from the bottom of the box, or pick up an inconceivably heavy soaking wet pad when there are perfectly good, unused bags in the very same box. It's disgusting. And fuck you whoever is doing that.

Another thing I am definitely guilty of but find it annoying (sometimes, not always) is when someone refers to some Simpsons or Family Guy episode. With almost 30 seasons combined between the two of them the odds that something someone is talking about has some vague connection between something that happened in one of the episodes is staggering so I find that it's way overdone. I definitely do it too though. I think it's because my brain is wired to pop-humour or something so as soon as someone says,”It's like in Family Guy when...” I can instantly make the connection between the show and whatever is happening at the time. Of course people don't just say, “It's like in Family Guy.” they say the entire scene they're thinking of but I already thought of it and laughed in my head so it just drags on for another 30 or 40 seconds. This phenomenon also happens with whatever movie is big at the time. It happened with Austin Powers, it happened with Napoleon Dynamite and it will invariably happen with whatever stupid comedy makes it huge next.

Awesome Engrish.

So there was a party at my house on friday. My parents weren't supposed to show up until sunday or monday but they came home early. Sorry if anyone was weirded out by that when they came home. I drank a bit before people showed up and therefore was ahead of everyone the whole night. Thanks for coming though.

Last night Laura and Nichole and Adrian and I went to Sunset Rubdown. They are an awesome band and played really well but their opener sucked and Sugar made them leave at midnight. It was sad because I thought there was a lot of potential for an awesome show but it somehow didn't pan out. At the end the lead said they probably won't play Victoria again.
Afterwards we walked to Adrian's place and hung out for a while. Me and Adrian were laughing about Eraserhead a lot but Laura hadn't ever seen it. We showed her a bit. It's a messed up movie. I think it's pretty funny actually even though I don't know if it's supposed to be. Obviously it's creepy too with that weird deformed baby thing (which is really well done and looks totally real and whoever is puppeteering it is amazing because its tongue and eyes and movements look totally natural) but most of the movie is just so strange it's funny. If I was with friends the first time I would have been laughing my ass off.

I saw my nephew today for the first time in over a year (except for when I saw him at Rock Heights when I performed at his school). I haven't seen my other nephews and nieces even longer than that. He's almost thirteen now and he's looking for a job and going to Vic High in a couple years and stuff. It's weird. He can't be going to Vic High... I like... just got out of Vic High it seems.

When you have a CD in stores you have to do in-store appearances. If nobody shows up I just pretend that I'm shopping. That's how I shop. I sit behind a table with a pen.
